National Best-Selling Author Travis Hunter (Atlanta, GA)
Occupation: Writer
Steps towards becoming a professional WRITER: I became a professional writer by investing in myself by learning from other professionals by watching and studying how they honed their craft. Also, I put my work out there to be critiqued. Last but not least, I believed in my abilities.
1- What 3 tips would you give someone struggling to reach their goals?
1. Write down your goals.
2. Complete at least one task on the list daily.
3. Find a mentor – but do your research and be serious, so you don’t waste their time. A mentor isn’t there to do the work for you.
2- Name the top 3 goals you achieved?
#1 Raising my son as a single parent.
#2 Writing and publishing my first novel after having never taken a writing or business course.
#3 Graduating college at 45 years old, because I wanted to complete it.
3- How did you overcome obstacles to reaching your goals?
I don’t believe in obstacles. I believe in steps to success. Some are more challenging than others, but if you want it bad enough, you’ll find away.
4- What inspires you?
I always wanted to be a positive role model for my son and all other Black kids.
5- How do you keep your inspiration from decreasing?
Once again, it’s a mindset. If you want something bad enough, your quest for a said thing will be all the inspiration you’ll need.

HOW TO FIND A MENTOR
Find an area you have an interest, and ask your teachers, guidance counselor, local churches, family, and friends if they know anyone in your field of interest who can mentor you.
If that does not work, look up companies and organizations within your interest, call, and email to see if they have an internship program or if they could point you in the right direction.
Never stop looking for the right mentor(s), yep you can have more than one.
